The Compact is an agreement between public sector bodies and the voluntary and community sector. The Compact stands for better partnership working, creating better outcomes for individuals and local communities. It recognises shared values, principles and commitments and sets out guidelines for how both sectors should work together, and indeed how organisations in the same sector should interact. It is a framework in which to build relationships and understandings that give confidence, especially in these uncertain times, manages expectations, encourages continuous communication and wider inclusion, and ultimately provides better value for money by supporting innovation and creativity. Specific promises are made by both sectors on how they will support volunteering and community groups; operate funding and performance management processes; work with partners; involve as many as possible in consultation; and promote equalities.
